This square is from stitchesandscraps.com and is named Beach Ball Square. You need to go check out this site. Pia has everything – free patterns, tutorials, and a link party I am so going to join in on. I am going to be making her crochet eye mask, you know for all those naps I get to take.
I was worried about how the ball would look in a solid color – if you would lose all the detail – but I think it came out great. Bonus you don’t have to work with the six colors at once in the center for the ball! Click here for the block page on Moogly.
These are my tips if you want to make the square in a solid color:
- Round 2: ch 3, 2 dc in same st as joining, (3dc in each st) around. (18 dc sts)
- For rounds 3 – 7 do the same number of stitches she orders just don’t worry about changing colors.
- I skipped the ball edging.
- Round 10: your corners won’t match the 2 sc spots from Round 9 – don’t freak out just keep going.
That is it. Just 4 tips to turn this into a solid color square. Have fun stitching and remember to share your squares on social media with #Moogly2017CAL so everyone can share in the fun.
