September KAL & CAL Round-up

Sept RoundUpI can’t even tell you how excited I am for this months roundup!  Not only is Marly Bird hosting her CAL for the year (you know she is my favorite yarnie ever!) but there are so many that you are going to want to join. Two of them are open make alongs that you can join and make what ever you want!

I have been dipping my toes back in to sewing and quilting more lately and I recently learned that there are sew alongs and quilt alongs.  So I am going to start adding some of those in the October Roundup.  If you know of any make along or even a challenge that is going to be starting in the next few months let me know and I will add it to the list so everyone can get in on the fun!

*Note: I am not an affiliate for any of these.  I am not going to make a single penny off any of this, I just want to share the crafty joy with everyone!  So no pressure – but if you join the Pigskin one let me know because I will get points for ‘drafting’ people!

Marly Bird is hosting a new CAL for a Granny Square Cardigan.  Don’t roll your eyes this thing is really pretty and is not a huge bulky one.  The pattern is free thanks to Red Heart, and uses Red Heart Unforgetable Yarn.  Make sure to join her Facebook Group for the CAL and post your progress pictures.  Red Heart is giving one prize pack away each week worth $25 to a randomly selected person, and three $50 prize packs for the finished project at the end.

down cellar studioDown Cellar Studio – Pigskin Party 2017

Runs Sep 7, 17 – Feb 5, 18 (NFL 2018 Football Season)

No Specific Pattern.  All items you make during the time period counts!

This is just awesome.  If you do no other Make Along this year you need to do this one.  Why? Because any thing you make during the time frame counts! It is an annual knit, crochet, weaving, and spin along hosted by the Down Cellar Studio Podcast.  You have to join the Ravelry Group, put your name in the Roster Thread and then just start keeping track and posting your progress.  You earn points for the final prizes by doing all kinds of things, some are drafting friends to join the fun, predict the winner of the Super Bowl this year, an internet scavenger hunt every week, finishing projects, and (my fave) you get points for yards used – the total number of yards you use in each project.  Don’t worry there is a whole page outlining everything.  There are tons of prizes that will be given away both during the season and then after all the points are tallied.  I am not going to lie, I have already signed the roster, predicted the winner for the superbowl, and claimed my spot for showing off my FOs (I am #80).  There are even coupon codes for the group to use to save money on things from the different prize sponsors.

** If you join this one let me know so I can get points for drafting you!

rickroll alongLyrical Knits – Rickrolling Along

Runs Aug 22 – Oct 22

Pattern cost $5 on Ravelry

This one is for a shawl pattern by Lyrical Knits.  I don’t think you can classify it as just a shawl though.  It can be worn as a regular shawl, asymmetrical shawl, cowl, or a poncho.  She has a video showing you all the different ways you can wear it!  I love the way it looks and I am definitely adding it to my to do list.  The thing that I find unique is she uses buttons to make it do all the different things, and you can customize it depending on how you want to wear it and how many buttons you want to add.  Join the Ravelry group for chatting and support on this one.

melting pot mystery calMelting Pot Shawl Mystery CAL

Runs Sep 10 – Oct 10

Pattern Cost $6 on Ravelry.  (There are coupons for $2 off before Sep 10, or $1 off till Oct 10)

This shawl was designed by Racy Newin and I love the story for it.  It uses 4 colors of yarn and you can use any thing – solids, speckles, variegated, even tonals.  She promises that no matter what colors or type you choose it will turn out beautifully.  There are some kits you can buy if your nervous about choosing your own (all the info is on the pattern page).  Since it is a Mystery CAL I can’t tell you that much, what I can tell you is you will need 4 different colors in a fingering weight yarn (each should be 25g/ 100 yds).  She has a Ravelry group you can join that will have a page for the clues, and a page for spoilers.  She also has a Facebook group for all her stuff that you can join and talk about the CAL there too.
