Stitchin’ Saturday #73

Have you ever tried something and got sucked in so completely you forgot what day it is?  I read romance novels like no one’s business.  So far this year I have read 127 new books (I love that Good Reads keeps up with that for me).  I decided when Mermaid was around 1 that I could write a romance and I have been playing around with the concept for a series since then.  I have a whole world built up where shifters, witches and things that go bump in the night have always been in the world with humans and are accepted members of society.  I have outlines & plots for seven books in a series.  Well this month I signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo.  (It is where you commit to writing a certain number of words on one project during the month.  It is supposed to force you to spit out a rough draft quickly so you can edit and get it published.)

I am happy to say that I am right on track to hit 60K words by the end of the month.  I am so stinking excited.  On Tuesday this week I wrote 10K words.  Seriously 10K words in one day.  I have a friend of mine who has edited some non-fiction books before to do the first edit in mid-August.

So to say I have had little time to work on my crochet this week is an understatement.  I have made progress on Mermaid’s wolf.  I for this one I am doing the color work with ‘bobbins’ of yarn instead of stretching it across the work.  Hopefully I won’t have to put a back on this one!  I am tempted to just do the center panel and the inside border.  She is tiny and would get swallowed up if I did the side panels and corner squares too.

Pattern Review

This week I want to give props to the crafty kits you can buy at the hobby stores.  Mermaid hasn’t been able to do them because of the ages they are made for are normally for 5 and older.  She found a kit where you can make your own fairy and fairy door.  I spent an hour with her showing her how to punch out the cut-outs and use sticky dots to put the decorations on the fairy and her door.  Then she played with it for hours while I sat next to her at the table and typed.  The best part about this particular kit is that the decorations are put on with sticky dots that can be peeled off, so she can decorate them and change them as often as she wants.  We have already had 2 different fairies and the door has changed a couple of times.  I am telling you if you have a kid you want entertained for a while get them a kit and set them up!

Now go get crafty!
